Puttalyze-APP

The Nr.1 green-reading app

Helps  golfers to improve  "reading the green" by visualizing the putt trajectory on inclined surfaces using the concepts of "aim point", "distance point" and "target speed". Having entered all relevant parameters, Puttalyze App simulates, calculates and graphically displays the resulting trajectory. It is based on the equation of motion of a rolling ball with friction.

Adjusting the Putt Distance on Inclined Surfaces with respect to a Flat Putt by  Paul Jordan PhD

Puttalyze-App

Puttalyze-App simulates the path of a rolling golf ball on a green to help golfers improve their "reading the green" skills by visualizing the concepts of "aim point", "distance point", and "target speed". After entering all relevant parameters, the resulting trajectory is calculated and displayed graphically. The "distance point" and "aim point" are shown, along with the relevant distances, on a result screen.

This helps golfers understand the physics of a rolling ball on an inclined surface intuitively and teaches them how to aim and adjust their shots based on the slope and other properties of the green, such as green speed.

Technical Details

The algorithms used are valid for a planar putting surface, which is a good approximation around the hole, considering only the case of pure rolling motion (no flight /- and skid phase).

The basic theory is well described  in a paper by Grober (see Grober, 2011 or Penner, 2002) and sources cited therein. It is based on  the equation of motion of a rolling ball on an inclined surface with a drag force due to rolling friction. The interpolation algorithm works for put distances between 1 m and  8 m (ca. 3 ft - 26 ft) and a product of Stimp distance Ds (in feet) and maximum  slope SLmax (in %) that is less than 40. I.e. Ds ×SLmax  ≤ 40(% × ft).

Coaching

Coaching

The Puttalyze-app's coaching section offers a wealth of resources to help golfers improve their putting skills. The section includes instructional videos, expert tips, drills, and exercises that teach proper putting techniques. In addition, it offers guidance on common mistakes and how to correct them, as well as information on reading the green and adjusting for factors such as slope and green speed.

In upcoming versions, the app will also provide personalized feedback on your performance, such as analysis of putt trajectory and distance, to help you identify areas for improvement.

With its comprehensive resources and personalized feedback, the coaching section of the Puttalyze app will be an invaluable tool for golfers looking to lower their scores on the course.
